Red Or Black is about putting everything on yourself. Not a little bit, not an each way bet with a safety net underneath. All of it, on one colour, while the whole room laughs at the odds.

It opens at three in the morning. Heating off, headphones on, a little one asleep down the hall, a pile of small school uniforms folded on the side. That is what betting on yourself actually looks like. It is not a highlight reel. It is quiet, it is late, and nobody is clapping.

Luck is just the losses that you never saw me take.

The losses don't post

The record is honest about the cost. A card declined at the till with a queue watching. A job offer with a lanyard and a desk, turned down with a laugh. A watch sold to make a mix better. Fourteen years on yourself, every leg of the bet a year, most of them landing in silence with only your own people there to see it.

People see the chain and the release date. They don't see the red letters on the mat or the drafts full of losses. That gap between what gets posted and what it took is the whole song.

Only tune in to who was there when it was static

The bridge turns away from the table and towards the people who never stopped backing the bet: the little one, his mum, the real ones who stayed. When the numbers start going up, everybody calls. He turns the volume down. The only frequency that matters is the one that was there before anyone else could hear it.

The animated video makes the point bigger than one man. It starts in a casino with every chip pushed onto black, and when the wheel spins it opens into everyone else who has had to do the same: a DJ at 3am, a hairdresser folding uniforms at midnight, a barber carrying his first chair up the stairs, a tennis player training alone in the rain, a pilot logging hours nobody sees, a tattoo artist who sold her watch for a machine, a man keeping his stall up in the wind. All of them invested before anyone saw a win.
